I've done many things in life. I started out as a software programmer, then quit that to sing professionally.. Then quit that to make movies. There was always something missing in every pursuit. Traveling to a new place, meeting new people, indulging in a new activity.. all of this would be nice for a while, distract me from that thing that was missing, but once I was by myself, that nagging feeling would be back.
On the side, I would always read, watch videos on spirituality, awakening etc.. but it wasn't until 2014 that I took up an active yoga and meditation practice..on a daily basis. We have all been lead to believe that an artist's life is meant to be one of struggle.. there is a certain romance to that. I believed it too.. and struggled and struggled, trying to make movies.. until the ground fell away one day..just like that.. As Adyashanti, one of my favorite Buddhist teachers puts it, when the ground falls away one day you realize that all the opinions you held were just that.. opinions. Not the truth.
So that fated day, quite out of the blue.. when the ground just fell away.. it was shocking at first..I realized that none of these things defined me... being a filmmaker, being Indian, heck.. even being a woman.. none of this was the REAL me. It was the greatest aha moment ever. I just let go and watched the world go by.. One day at a time. And then what I was meant to do came to me.. Whatever I was chasing after began to chase me.. And now I finally understood what all the Gurus and masters had been saying since time immemorial :)
So now I'm experiencing the world from this new perspective and all I can say is that it's been a blast so far...! |

How I spend my free time:
- Currently on a sabbatical from filmmaking.. In this time I have studied Spanish, Tarot and now Vedic astrology. As someone who was a skeptic, I find astrology to be astonishingly accurate. Its not just about predictions but is a valuable tool to guide people's lives, show them their karmic patterns they keep repeating.
Nobody could have said it better than Yogananda :
A child is born on that day and at that hour when the celestial rays are in mathematical harmony with his individual karma.
The message boldly blazoned across the heavens at the moment of birth is not meant to emphasize fate—the result of past good and evil—but to arouse man’s will to escape from his universal thralldom. What he has done, he can undo. None other than himself was the instigator of the causes of whatever effects are now prevalent in his life. He can overcome any limitation, because he created it by his own actions in the first place, and because he has spiritual resources which are not subject to planetary pressure.

Not much really.. I've transformed a lot in the last couple of years and have very few trigger points. However, it does annoy me when people have strong political views or are extremely judgmental of something.

There has been a sense of timelessness in my life for the last 2 years and it has only deepened of late. I don't plan life anymore. I wake up each day and decide what to do. The freedom is amazing and every day is magical.

I think I was always spiritual, even as a kid.. but then the 20s happened and I got sidetracked. I lived in the US for a while and that gave me an opportunity to reconnect with my roots - Hinduism and its allied arts and sciences. I studied Yoga, a bit of Aryurveda and now Astrology.
However it was only 2 years ago when things broke down work wise that I decided to listen more to my intuition, however bleak the external situation was. An unwavering faith to my intuition was instrumental in rapidly transforming me and I am forever grateful to that. Intuition can see things from the 40th floor of a building whereas your ego mind is at ground level and only wants to protect itself. This has been the greatest learning in life and has also brought me to my Dharma, my life purpose.
