| About Me
|
|
|
I am a being who is working on living life to the fullest, being happy, creative, compassionate, courageous, understanding, joyous, friendly, peaceful. I do my bast to avoid the negativities of life and to look on the sunny side of things, work to accept what is happening without judgement.
Health is supremely important and I do my best to be in good health, despite whatever physical or emotional obstacles life throws at me.
I like to laugh and enjoy stuff that allows that to happen, whatever that might be.
I am a Buddhist practitioner with a solid, daily practice. I am a professional musician -- jazz is my main interest -- and teacher who finds music one of the most profound aspects of our life here. I enjoy other creative avenues, such as drama, art, fiction and poetry. I search out the truth in news of the world, but try not to be attached to what is going on. It is what it is is how I see it.
I would enjoy meeting someone who has some of the same values that I do. |

| Personality
|
|
|
-
My Personality:
-
Caring, Creative, Confident
-
When out with friends, I'm usually:
-
The talkative one
-
What makes me laugh hardest:
-
Someone funny.
-
I'm happiest when:
-
I'm practicing both Buddhism and my horn, when I'm walking, and when I can connect with a good, dear friend.
-
The things that annoy me are:
-
Annoy is not a word I would use. I am saddened by the state of the world, and the prevalence of an us vs. them mentality. I wish for humans to treat others as they would like to be treated and for the end of all wars, famine, poverty and ill will.
-
The best day of my life was when:
-
I have many best days, like when I have found that place of peace inside me.
-
If I could have dinner with any three people, they would be:
-
Buddha Shakyamuni: he showed the way out of our confusion, which blocks our way to happiness.
Charlie Parker: just talk to him about what he did to play that horn like he did.
Albert Einstein: I'd want to know how he thought.

Jazz. It has been my favorite music all my life. I love it so much that I play it, and perform it.
I also like anything that sounds good, though probably so-called classical tops, then rop and rock, say Hendrix, maybe country. All this I don't know because I just listen to jazz.
-

Tao Te Ching - Lao Tze
Books on jazz
Very occasional novel, more non-fiction.

The things I'm most grateful for in life are...

The gift of the love of music, which has sustained me through the years.
Deep friendships that have lasted decades.
That I am open to spirituality, and embrace Vajrayana Buddhism
That I'm grateful.
-
My goals, and what I want out of life...
-
I have been fortunate in accomplishing some of my goals.
I achieved the long-time goal of recording an album, which I did both in 2013 and 2015.
I had great fortune in finding work at two top newspapers, and several top magazines
-
My greatest accomplishments in life have been...
-
That I was open enough to embrace the spiritual path I have been on for several years.
Great nights playing the tenor saxophone and singing with stellar musicians.
Writing stories about musicians to both show who they were and how and why they played jazz and to subtly encourage readers to check these musicians out, buying an album, going to a performance, borrowing a record from the library.

Spirituality

|
-
Spiritual Orientation:
-
Buddhist
-
I consider my spirituality...
-
Very important to me
-
What brought me to my spiritual path and motivated my interest...
-
I was born into Eastern philosophy. My parents were interested in a thinker named J. Krishnamurti, who espoused many of the thoughts that were offered by Buddha Shakyamuni 2500 years ago. Over the years, it just developed. Fo quite a while, I was devoted reader of the Tao Te Ching by Lao Tze. Then I discovered Buddhism per so and began another journey, on which I have taken refuge, which is what a baptism might be in Christianity. I practice daily.
-
I consider the purpose of my spirituality to be...
-
Finding happiness and peace within, Helping me cope with the struggles of life, Instilling morality and virtues, Belonging to a like-minded community, Helping me grow as a person
-
After the body dies...
-
The soul reincarnates until achieving Liberation
-
I would define a spiritual experience as...
-
Breathing in and out, not trying not to think but relaxing and just being, with and without thoughts, but always aware of thoughts, letting them go. Just sit quietly.
-
A spiritual experience I would like to share...
-
That's pretty private.
-
The spiritual books and authors that have had the greatest impact on me...
-
anything by J. Krishnamurti
Tao Te Ching by LaoTze
The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying by Sogyal Rinpoche
The Tibetan Book of the Dead (First Complete Edition, Penguin Classics
Natural Liberation by Gyatrul Rinpoche
Teachings of the Buddha, edited by Jack Kornfeld.
