How I spend my free time:
I'm unemployed and have a lot of time. I spend it watching TV, news, movies, TV show and sports. My hours are late, sleeping at about 3 a.m and getting up in the noon or 1 hour usually. I do my shopping and I get my medical appointments. I will play music. Have listened to kirtan and spiritual talks but have fallen out with meditation. Used to chant. Have no motor vehicle so it's hard on me. Was close to my mom. She died in 2007. Lost home and inheritance being unemployable. Hard to know why. I have education but they insist on work experience. Got some help from good people after I became homeless.
Personality
When out with friends, I'm usually:
The talkative one
What makes me laugh hardest:
The Daily Show.
I'm happiest when:
When we all agree.
The things that annoy me are:
Restrictions on my diet and behavior.
The best day of my life was when:
When I lost my virginity.
If I could have dinner with any three people, they would be:
Elvis. I adored him as a kid. Looked forward to every one of his movies. JFK because he filled me with energy in those early years. Christ because I have some different opinions about him than others.
Interests
My interests, hobbies, and pastimes include...
Board Games, Computers, Cooking, Eating Out, Gardening, History, Movies, Museums, Music (listening), Photography, Politics, Reading, Television, Theater, Travel, Writing
The physical activities I'm interested in are:
Aerobics, Biking, Billiards/Pool, Gym/Weightlifting, Hiking/Backpacking, Martial Arts, Walking, Yoga (hatha)
For fun I like to...
I like to go out for lunch, dinner and coffee which are great by themselves but I also like a concert or movie or other such social activity. Actually chanting and meditation is fun for me as well. A discussion of a good book is a good time but I find it rarely. I play WWF2 on Facebook, Microsoft 10's hearts and sometimes some online chess. I like a bike ride. Love a beautiful day. Enjoy getting a ride - from the right person.
My favorite movies:
Been studying the classics lately, Humphrey Bogart, etal. Just watched The Goodbye Girl the other night. It was a very good movie. Have traditionally said Pulp Fiction was my favorite. Ram Dass' Fierce Grace might be appropriate to mention here. Great movie. Some Ingrid Bergman movies have caught my eye recently. She was very good.
My favorite music:
I like sankirtan and bhajans as well as Elton John and Bob Dylan. Linda Ronstadt has been appealing to me lately. At this time Jai Utthal is my favorite. Familiar with Krishna Das.
My favorite books:
Tibet's Great Yogi Milarepa comes to mind today. I did read it years ago. Autobiography of a Yogi was very significant to me. There is a great book on the life of Jesus I like to quote, The Urantia Book. It changed a lot of my opinions, specifically the one on reincarnation. Play of Consciousness by Swami Muktananda has also influenced my thought. Loved a couple of other Buddhist books, The Way to Shamballa by Edwin Bernbaum and The Wheel of Life by John Blofeld but I read them so long ago, and when reincarnation was law to me.
Values
The virtues I consider most important are...
Loyalty, Faith, Kindness
The things I'm most grateful for in life are...
Family, health, financial security and spiritual guidance.
My goals, and what I want out of life...
I may be a mistake to set goals, but I suppose self-realization or living in the present moment, the now would be that.
My greatest accomplishments in life have been...
Involving myself in Siddha Yoga. Visiting Colorado in the 70's which involved a visit to Stephan's Farm in Tennessee. Becoming vegetarian. Surviving homelessness. Surviving my mother's passing. Becoming acquainted with the internet and personal computers, my degree in psychology.
Five or ten years from now, I see myself...
Some place better than the room I have now. Maybe some career advancement.
My political inclination can be described as...
Non-conformist
Spirituality
Spiritual Orientation:
Spiritual, not religious
I consider my spirituality...
Very important to me
What brought me to my spiritual path and motivated my interest...
The Siddha Path I have followed since the late 70's was advertised in magazines. I was looking for a Guru. A girlfriend I had was interested in a commune called The Farm. The year that we went to visit, The Farm, Ram Dass came to my university city. Many years later I was interested in following a Guru to realize my real self. A teacher had followed a Guru, another had introduced me to a satsang popular then, Prem Rawat's, then known as Maharaji. The Siddha path was available to me locally. Others I was interested in, like the Cult of Tara, had no local presence. I visited Shree Muktananda Ashram, ostensibly to meet Gurumayi in 1992. I am not sure meeting a Guru was so important to me but that's how it went. They had a lovely ashram up there. I am from NY, so that was meaningful, too.
I consider the purpose of my spirituality to be...
Connecting to something greater than myself, Finding happiness and peace within, Helping me cope with the struggles of life, Belonging to a like-minded community, Helping me grow as a person
After the body dies...
The soul persists in a spiritual realm
I would define a spiritual experience as...
Something you've never experienced before in your life.
A spiritual experience I would like to share...
I saw this triangle I associate with the A.A. Baily books. It was ablaze. I was at a free Arlo Guthrie concert. He was singing with Shenandoah, a band he helped create. I had been traveling by thumb quite a bit though I did have a used car in those days. Some hectic events, even violent had come about. These books were predicting the reappearance of Christ in one volume, and I was excited about that, but I was carrying The Treatise on White Magic (white being the counter to black, not erotic black but evil black).
The spiritual books and authors that have had the greatest impact on me...
Bhagwan Shree Rahneesh, Muktananda, Yogananda and The Urantia Book.
