| About Me

I'm not a member, yet, so please message me! Thanks.
Buddhist practice has been a way of life since my 20s. I grew up with Zen at Green Gulch, transitioned to Vipassana, and recently studied with a Tibetan Gelugpa teacher in India. I listen to dharma talks, join online meditation groups/talks. I've completed many retreats at Spirit Rock.
I listen to jazz, classical, and vinyl rock, live concerts whether at the War Memorial or a simple bar scene. Performing and visual arts inspire me and I have many more museums to go before I sleep. I love The Hermitage and the Asian Art Museum.
I read about Buddhism, spirit, myth, psychology, nutrition, fiction, and poetry. I exercise outdoors regularly, eat healthy whole foods. I'll try a new bite of an unknown palate, exploring the city or backwoods spot for a new taste.
Sailing is a lifelong love of mine, especially on the San Francisco Bay and the local lakes. I admit that sometimes solo sailing is better. I'm at home in the mountains and anywhere wind and water meet.
I've followed the creative spark in travels, in short story writing, improvising on the piano, and in spontaneous connections.
I am looking for a man who is dedicated to his spiritual practice and preferably grounded in a Buddhist tradition; someone who is physically active and intellectually inspired; who saunters along mountain streambeds and might dream of sailing the oceans; who delves into a discussion of Buddhist texts, psychology, or social issues with alacrity; lives with integrity, and tends toward introversion. I am attracted to a man who wants a singular relationship, has a warm and gentle spirit, and lives with integrity. Someone who shares authentically, with fun or with gravity.

How I spend my free time:
- Reading, writing, walking in the woods, fixing things in the house or garden, pondering, being still and quiet, reflecting thoughts, meditating, sharing food with friends in lively conversation, flying a kite, swimming in the river, catching a movie, scanning articles in Tricycle or the New Yorker or NPR/NBC/BBS, people watching, listening to a free streaming jazz station and dancing to the music while waiting for the water to boil. Loving life again and again. Stopping to pet anyone's dog.

My Personality:
-
Adventurous, Confident, Creative
-
When out with friends, I'm usually:
-
The quiet one
-
What makes me laugh hardest:
-
Any old SNL shows, A Fish Called Wanda, various scenes from many movies.
-
I'm happiest when:
-
I'm in a groove and everything is falling into place and I feel the connections. I'm happy when people get my jokes and say something like "Gosh, I didn't realize you were so funny," and mean it. Happiest sailing. Happiest in my lover's arms. Happiest sharing joy with those who suffer or are numb.
-
The things that annoy me are:
-
Weed wacker or other machine noises, conspiracy theorists' rants, nationalist politics, pretentiousness, and intrusive popups on my computer screen.
-
The best day of my life was when:
-
I hiked out on my catamaran for the first time--by myself. Oh yes, when light and bliss filled me after many weeks of meditation and one special Aikido class. ...there are quite a few best days.
-
If I could have dinner with any three people, they would be:
-
Nagarjuna, Tara, Chopin, Coltrane. Ok, Shakyamuni Buddha. Ann Tyler.

Values
|
|
|
-
The virtues I consider most important are...
-
Courage, Honesty, Kindness
-
The things I'm most grateful for in life are...
-
health, opportunity, creative moments, insights
-
My goals, and what I want out of life...
-
I find this question so alienating and I ask why is that--a tinge of conflicting goals or wants or expectations, maybe. Goals--to maintain equilibrium and kindness to all others. To open my heart to a loving man who remains trustworthy, interesting, and challenging; because, to open one's heart to a real live person and not to an idea or a concept of a remembrance of self or even to lived non-self...I can vouch for trembling desire and well it's scary to let myself be fully known. My goal is to let others know me and for me to know others, fully. And to be available to letting that go. I want to meet a man who meditates, who loves life and knows emptiness and who wants to share all of him, this, with me, the love of his life.
-
My greatest accomplishments in life have been...
-
Knowing and feeling, and acting with, compassion.I feel rewarded by service to others as a nurse and a clinical social worker; although burnout is prevalent in these fields, I was rewarded seeing my patients suffer less and others recover completely. I lived in India for several months to study Tibetan Buddhism with a student of the Dalai Lama in Daramshala; traveling in India was an accomplishment and caused an upwelling of satisfaction. Greatest? Equanimity. Not so great but fantastic, becoming a good sailor. Least greatest: following the open path...why carry a machete in the jungle when the path is clearly present and in front of you. Staying in the present moment and sharing this with my brother who smiles deeply when we know--here we are!
-
Five or ten years from now, I see myself...
-
5 years--sailing and snorkeling in the little latitudes' clear waters with the love of my life; finishing a long meditation retreat; volunteering at a Tibetan orphanage or teaching refugees. 10 years--writing a memoir, gardening, learning something new, caring for my best friend, still dancing and meditating, lovingly attached to a loving man.
-
My political inclination can be described as...
-
Liberal
|
|
|
|
Spirituality
|
|
|
-
Spiritual Orientation:
-
Buddhist, Yoga, Spiritual, not religious
-
I consider my spirituality...
-
The central focus of my life
-
What brought me to my spiritual path and motivated my interest...
-
The Three Pillars of Zen, the Vietnam war veterans who spoke of the Eastern mind when they returned. It was serendipity--It has been my path for a long time. The monks from Green Gulch came to speak at my highschool, oh my, what fascinating minds. As a teen, searching for a path to seeing and understanding my world and my thoughts: who am I? What am I? Wanting to understanding the profound experiences that teachers of Zen bespoke; during meditation there is a glimpse of calm abiding that I felt at the beginning of my journey. I was 18 years old and then again when I was 33 years old, when I was struck by this amazing experience after meditation and a good teacher.
-
I consider the purpose of my spirituality to be...
-
Finding happiness and peace within, Helping me cope with the struggles of life, Instilling morality and virtues, Belonging to a like-minded community, Helping me grow as a person
-
After the body dies...
-
The soul reincarnates until achieving Liberation
-
I would define a spiritual experience as...
-
Direct perception of reality, bliss, love, being beyond perception/bliss/love; synchronicity with places/people, and seeing the threads of connection to everything.
-
A spiritual experience I would like to share...
-
Well, there is something very simple about perception, that one time without attachment or ego--experiencing the shift of wind from onshore to offshore while sitting on a coastal mountain's edge, watching the sky at dusk, and letting go.
-
The spiritual books and authors that have had the greatest impact on me...
-
Three Pillars of Zen to learn how to sit still, Suzuki Roshi, Nagarjuna, Buddha's suttas, Jack Kornfield, Joseph Campbell, Jung, Erikson, Mary Oliver, HH Dalai Lama and Bikku Bodhi.
