Friends describe me as funny, easy-going, contemplative, intelligent, and mature.
My meditation practice has been really transformative for me. It's amazing to be able to feel the effect of thoughts and emotions as they arise and to be able to skillfully work with them. I feel myself becoming more open and compassionate, and I love being able to hold that feeling and share it with others. I notice that kindness, joy, and compassion are the biggest things that draw me to another person as well.
I'm about to finish a PhD in engineering. If you've ever been curious about how GPS works, I can tell you much more than you'd ever want to know! :) Outside of that, I spend a lot of time with hobbies (running, climbing, yoga, hiking) and social groups (meditation groups, a men's group, dinners with strangers). I don't mind doing these things alone, but definitely a plus if we can do some of them together!
My favorite thing in the world is having deep conversations with people. I took a trip last year to visit a friend, and she and I spent a majority of the weekend walking along the beach sharing our thoughts and emotions about our respective relationships. I loved that trip, and I try to seek out deep connections like that as much as possible.
I read once about a marriage tradition in which the participants light a candle together, and then hold it above each of their heads. The flame symbolizes the relationship, and it is placed above their heads to show that the relationship is greater than either individual. That resonated with me a lot. I have my ideas about the kind of partner that I'm looking for, and I'm sure that you have yours too. The relationship that we create together will be a beautiful, complicated, joyful thing that is bigger than either of us. |
