There is no greater beauty than simple kindness. No greater virtue than extending compassion to all beings. Gentleness, sweetness, joy in simple things, humility, warmth and timely humor are qualities I cherish more than all others. I am a professor at the University of California at Davis. I teach courses on Buddhism, Hinduism and Asian Art History which are my passions and which bring me vast delight, comfort and insight. I practice meditation daily. I have lived in India for 7 years. I speak Tamil and have also studied Sanskrit, Pali and Hindi. I have travelled widely throughout South and Southeast Asia. I am a vegetarian. I love mystical poetry, especially Ch’an Buddhist literature and the early Daoist classics. |
