After 2 summers of striking out at bat in Little League I was up at bat on the last game of the second season. The game was tied in the bottom of ninth. There had been 2 outs before I came up to bat. Since the team knew I always struck out there was a collective groan. I had 2 strikes and 3 balls and hit a grand slam on the final pitch. The center fielder ran to the ball but dropped it and the ball rolled into the adjacent field and I had time to run from second base all the way to the home plate. My team crowded around me cheering. Was treated by my mom to an orange popsicle. Walked home in the muggy thunderstorm air of a Phoenix night in summer.

Product of lapsed Catholic mother and Lutheran father who raised me Presbyrterian. Went atheist at 12 yo. After much study via science and engineering and dabbling in philosophy came to a agnostic compromise which acknowledges a purpose to existence perhaps unknowable. Believe, so far, in Tiplerian thesis that "God" may exist at the end of this universe when all information comes together to inform itself of all that happened at the Big Crunch or Heat Death. Also intrigued by implications of the Cosmic Landscape corollary of current superstring M Theory-- anything that can be imagined and more has, will or has already happened- literally anything is possible... Use precepts of Buddhism/Zen, Taoism and Ba'Hai faiths to guide my behavior in the here and now karma.
