About Me
|
|
|
As I live in a region 'o fundamentalist mega churches, I'm checking out this site with the intention of friendship and, possibly, more with a man of integrity, depth and humor.
Friends say I'm "real." That seems like a good thing. Also that I'm strong, compassionate, deep and sometimes irreverently funny. Non drinker.
"Dharma"-wise: a bit like Pi Patel in Life of Pi. Have been a member of a Vipassana sit group for about 7 years.
I find writing to be a revealing process and, for 26 years, have written daily. Also a member of a Christian church (over 20 yrs) where the pastor is inclusive/open minded and supports my many-lamps-one-light perspective.
Was married for 23.5 years. Divorce wasn't my idea (old fashioned when it comes to marriage), yet I'm coming to see it as a gift I wouldn't have given myself. Recently did my first 7-day silent Vipassana retreat and found it to be an illuminating experience, if also frustratingly humorous -- to see how my habitual mind works.
Would like to meet someone who shares open-mindedness without the hypocrisy I see too often in "spiritual" circles as much as in religious circles. As mentioned above, while friends refer to me as "spiritual," I'm pretty traditional about male/female relationships, commitment, and monogamy. Love nature, music, poetry, prose, laughing, good conversation, singing, and life-affirming art/films.
If you're familiar with the Myers-Briggs personality indicator (which is uncannily accurate, from what I've seen) I'm an ENFJ ... sometimes read as an INFJ ... but I'd say I'm a little more extroverted than introverted.
In short, I'm a good-hearted person who gets that we're all perfectly imperfect. On my last solo trip to the coast, I noted times when I'd like to have asked someone special, "Wow, what do you think of that view?"
Not paid member so ...

How I spend my free time:
- Getting into nature as often as possible. Singing at open mics or, yes, karaoke. Being of service. Writing poetry and prose and reading my work before audiences. Artsy. Poet. Hanging out with friends. Contemplating. Was an art major and am always involved in some creative endeavor, even if it's just quick drawing before bed.

Spirituality
|
|
|
-
Spiritual Orientation:
-
Buddhist, Christian, Unitarian, Spiritual, not religious
-
I consider my spirituality...
-
Very important to me
-
What brought me to my spiritual path and motivated my interest...
-
I'm told that suffering brings most people to Buddhist meditation. I'd say the same is true when it comes to resonating with the teachings of Jesus. Reverence for nature/The Divine in Nature/appreciation for the "groundedness" aspect brought me to sweat lodge ceremonies.
-
I consider the purpose of my spirituality to be...
-
Connecting to something greater than myself, Finding happiness and peace within, Helping me cope with the struggles of life, Building a personal relationship with God, Instilling morality and virtues, Belonging to a like-minded community
-
After the body dies...
-
The soul persists in a spiritual realm
-
I would define a spiritual experience as...
-
Finding the "sacred" is, in fact, the ordinary.
-
A spiritual experience I would like to share...
-
What is a "spiritual experience?" How do we separate the "spiritual" from all else that comprises life?
-
The spiritual books and authors that have had the greatest impact on me...
-
Many.
